Combat

Combat factors
Start with AF and compare plane stats.
+ 1 per 2 points of max speed difference.
(-Bombload factor)
+ 1 per 2 pts of max altitude difference.
- 1 Raw pilot
+ 1 Elite pilot
(+ 2) to a bomber defended by ftrs. Only used to see whether a losing bomber is shot down or driven off.

Fighter bombers reduce speed by 1 and altitude by 1. For any aircraft carrying bombs over 500lbs up to 1500lbs reduce speed by 1 and altitude by 1.
Over 1500lbs reduce speed by 1 per 500lbs to a maximum reduction of 6 pts with 4000lbs of bombs.
Do not drop bomber speed below 6

Example of combat 1 Example of combat 2
Unladen Boeing B-17E, speed 13, altitude 15, AF 13.
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8, speed 16, altitude 15, AF 10.

B-17E E        13 +d6
FW190A-8  10+2(speed)+d6
B-17E range 14-19, FW190A-8 range 13-18
Probable outcome either plane to be driven off.

If the Boeing had been fully laden then its speed would drop by 6 and altitude by 1. This would have given the FW190A-8 an additional +3 on speed and +1 on altitude.
Boeing range 14-19 FW range 17-22.
This gives the Boeing only a 1 in 6 chance of reaching the battlefield.

Escorted Ju 87B1, speed 9, altitude 10, AF 3
Morane-Saulnier speed 12, altitude 12, AF 4

Ju 87B1               3+d6
Morane-Saulnier 4+2(speed)+2(altitude)+d6
(The Ju has -1 altitude and speed)

Ju 87B1 range 4-9, Morane range 9-14
Outcome Ju87 shot down or driven off .

With the additional +2 for defending fightors there is only a 1 in 12 chance of being shot down. The JU87 will only reach the battlefield if defending fighters manage to drive off the Morane-Saulnier.

Results of combat
