May 7, 1941
German raider Pinguin attacked and sunk on May 8, by the 8" shells of British cruisers.

November 19, 1941
Amphion class light cruiser HMAS Sydney ex HMS Phaeton sunk by German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran.

Pearl Harbour 7/12/41
Battleships West Virginia, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, Arizona.
All five were sunk by torpedo armed aircraft, but the first three were subsequently raised.
Destroyers Shaw, Cassin and Downes seriously damaged along with the minelayer Oglala and the target ship Utah.
Other damaged ships included the Battleships Pennsylvannia, Maryland and Tennesse and the cruisers Helena, Honolulu and Raleigh.
Only the Arizona was a total loss; the Shaw was raised and patched up and most of the workings of the Cassin and Downes were salvaged.
There were 86 warships present at Pearl and 19 of them took a degree of serious damage.

Between 4-8 December Gunboats HMS Cicada and HMS Robin sunk by destroyers IJN Inazuma and Isuzu.

Three Japanese subs lost during the attack on Pearl.

December 8, 1941
HMS Peterel sunk at Shanghai by Hasu, Toba and possibly the Izumo.
Japanese warships shelled Guam.

December 10, 1941
Japanese submarine I170 sunk by SBD divebombers from the carrier Enterprise.

Repulse (BB) Sunk 10th December by Torpedo Bomber
Companion destroyers to force Z were Electra, Tenedos, Express and HMAS Vampire.

December 11, 1941
Japanese light cruiser Yubari seriously damaged and driven off by shore battery on Wake.
Japanese destroyer Hayate sunk by defenders on Wake.
Japanese destroyer Kisaragi sunk by defenders on Wake.
A cruiser and three destroyers damaged and a further three destroyers forced to retire by shore batteries and air attack.

Invasion of the Philippines
Batan Island surprise attack, Hayo Maru and Hayataka Maru sunk.
From surprise attack forces minelayers no 9 and no 15 sunk.

December 12, 1941
Insect class river gunboat HMS Moth scuttled Hong Kong.

December 16, 1941
Landing made on Borneo by Japanese forces.

December 19, 1941
Dutch submarine 0-20 in the gulf of Siam forced to the surface and sunk by gunfire.
HMS Tern a Tern class rivergunboat scuttled Hong Kong.

December 21, 1941
Dutch submarine KXVII mined around this date.

December 22, 1941
Landing made by Japanese forces at Lingayen gulf.

December 23, 1941
Invasion of Wake 2 old Japanese destroyer transports rammed on to reef.

December 25, 1941
Dutch submarine KXVI(Jarman) sunk a Japanese destroyer, but was sunk in return.

December, 1941
A total of 4 submarines were lost by the Dutch navy in December 1941. O20, KXVI, KXVII, and O16. O16 lost in a minefield and KXVII either sunk by I66 or the same minefield as O16.
